Too often we talk about the technology advancing mobility (the latest aerial unmanned drone, the autonomous vehicle investments being made in the billions, and the bikes and scooters that have taken over the sidewalks in many of our communities. But all of those innovations don’t operate in a vacuum. The bikes and scooters need the right of way and safe places to operate, the autonomous vehicles need safe yet realistic places to test, and drones require communities to accept new ways of delivery. And all of those things depend on people. Leaders making decisions on policy, community members sharing how they feel about proposals, and advocates clamoring for change.
